Cognitively Based Compassion Training (CBCT) (Queens County)

CBCT is an 8-session meditation-based training program developed by Emory University. It has both universal health promotion and targeted prevention applications; that is, it can help anyone in developing a compassionate disposition, plus it has demonstrated that it prevents burnout and builds resilience for improved health, pro-social attitudes and community well-being. CBCT holds the distinction of being one of the longest running and most studied compassion protocols of its kind, and is being custom-tailored to assist professionals in 4 important fields: business, education, healthcare, and mental health.

ObjectivesCognitively Based Compassion Training is designed to expand our compassion and make it more inclusive. In this way, compassion is understood as a capacity or skill that can be trained like any other to become effortless and spontaneous through practice. And notably, it is never too late to start cultivating this capacity.
Teaching ProcessThe 8 sessions are arranged in a sequence representing the conditions that give rise to mindful compassion, building upon the skills and insights we develop throughout the program. The earlier sessions focus on resilience with security priming, self awareness, regulation, and self compassion, then expand to empathy for others. Ideally, becoming enduring capabilities for the participant.
