Welcome to our "Island History" speaker series, an enlightening eight-week exploration of Prince Edward Island's rich and vibrant past. Each week, we will be joined by a distinguished historian or expert who will delve into different facets of our island's history. These speakers will share their extensive knowledge and passion for PEI's heritage, bringing to life the stories, events, and figures that have shaped our beloved island. Join us for an engaging journey through time, as we uncover the captivating history of Prince Edward Island. The Lineup includes:
January 3rd: Gary MacDougall - "The History of the Guardian Newspaper"
January 10: James MacNutt-"The Architectural Traditions of Charlottetown starting in 1770 running through to 2024";
January 17: Ed Mac Donald- " Going Places: A Short Haul History of Transportation in and around Prince Edward Island";
January 24th: Leonard Cusack - "A Magnificant Gift Declined: The Dalton Sanitorium of PEI";
January 31: James MacNutt -" Sinking of the Faerie Queen in 1853 and Ghost Stories"; The Yankee Gale, October, 1851 in which several American vessels were caught in a storm with a substantial loss of vessels and lives to which the North Shore residence of the province came to the aid of the dead living and injured. The Faerie Queen is the loss of a vessel, transporting passengers and cargo from Charlottetown to Pictou caught in a storm. Captain and crew abandoned ship, leaving passengers defend for themselves many of whom were lost while the captain and crew all safely and comfortably managed to get to Port.
